NOT EVEN ONCE MURAL PROJECT NEOMP SPRING 2014
Public murals with the greatest impact are those created in conjunction and in collaboration with the community where they proudly stand. It is for this reason that artist, East3, connects organizations and individuals who are also working towards building healthier schools through comprehensive hip hop programming.
Artist Ken East3 Nishimura & Hawaii Meth Project HMP have teamed up to teach youth about the dangers of meth usage in a visual language we can all understand. Ours is a message that stays imprinted on minds through the creation of mural art and also through concurrent art workshopping sessions with the artist. These workshops are done with educators and volunteers on site and often in co-collaboration with other local artists.
HMP Executive Director David Earles & East3 developed NEOMP as a way to target Hawaii schools and youth facilities with a strong, positive anti-meth message through murals. Each of the three murals created during Spring 2014 were themed using HMP’s “Not Even Once” tagline supported by images connecting with each specific community.
So far, NEOMP has raised awareness through bright, bold and creative art at three sites on the Big Island, Maui and Oahu. News of our event was covered by major media outlets including television, print, radio and internet. Beginning mid-August we aim to complete our 2014 tour by collaborating with four more Hawaii public schools or youth facilities.
